As a small, deeply experienced, and fast-paced team, we’re at the intersection of cutting-edge AI, spatial data science, and cancer biology. Now, we are looking for a highly skilled and motivated senior full-stack engineer to join our company and advance Katana Edge for global scalability.
The Role
We’re looking for a dedicated web developer – a mid to senior-level engineer with 5+ years of experience who loves crafting captivating, performant frontends but can work across the full stack when needed.
You’ll be instrumental in shaping our web platform to build features that researchers rely on daily. This isn’t just another CRUD app – you’ll tackle genuinely interesting technical challenges at the intersection of web technology and computational biology.
What you’ll work on:
- Visualizing massive images: Render and enable fluid interaction with gigapixel microscopy images in the browser
- Making complexity intuitive: Design and build UX flows that make sophisticated spatial analysis workflows feel natural to scientists
- Integrating AI: Provide seamless user experience for our AI-powered analysis pipelines
- Building for scale: Optimize performance for handling large spatial datasets in real-time
- Owning features end-to-end: Take ideas from concept through implementation, working across our TypeScript-based frontend and Python/FastAPI backend
What you’ll work with:
- Frontend: TypeScript, Alpine.js, OpenSeadragon, DeckGL, Three.js, WebGL, D3
- Backend: Python, FastAPI
- Cloud: GCP, AWS
What We’re Looking For
You have:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong expertise in modern web development (using React, Vue.js or similar) with TypeScript
- Experience building performant, responsive web applications
- Comfortable working across the full stack (Python/FastAPI backend)
- A track record of shipping production code that users love
- The self-starter mindset to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
- Fluency in English (German is a plus)
Bonus points for:
- Experience with biomedical imaging or geospatial applications
- Affinity for machine learning or computational biology
- Familiarity in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Expertise in securing web applications
- Previous startup experience
- Open source contributions or side projects we can check out
